November at the Blue Lagoon, in short
Blue Lagoon boat trips still run in November, although fewer operators sail than in summer and a windy day can cancel or shorten a trip. The sea averages about 22°C across the month, cooling as it goes, so an early-November swim is realistic on a calm day for many people, although the Malta Tourism Authority does not recommend swimming from November to February. Later in the month, sightseeing-led and private trips are the better choice.
For most of November, a Gozo and Comino day gives you the most for your money: the lagoon, the cliffs and caves, and three to four hours on Gozo, which carry the day even without a swim. A short private boat suits couples and small groups who want Comino without a full day at sea.

What November is like at the Blue Lagoon
November is the month the Blue Lagoon changes from a swimming trip into a sightseeing one. The water is still the famous turquoise over white sand, the cliffs and caves of Comino are the same, and the lagoon is quieter than in summer. What changes is everything around the swim: the air, the wind, the length of the day and the number of boats that go out.
Early November can feel like a mild October. The sea has only just dropped below its autumn level, the days are often warm and sunny, and a boat day at Comino is still a pleasant, easy thing to do. Our guide to Malta boat trips in November lists which tours still sail.
Late November is closer to winter. The average November has twelve rain days, the average peak gust at Luqa rises to about 74 km/h, and by the middle of the month the sun sets at about five o'clock, so a full-day cruise comes back around dusk or after dark. A day on the water is still possible and often very beautiful, but it is more likely to be moved or rerouted by the weather, and it is better planned as a day for the scenery.
The lagoon is quieter too. Malta recorded about 1.9 million tourist nights in November 2025, against 2.6 million in October and 3.5 million in August. Those figures are for Malta as a whole and do not count people at the lagoon, but the difference is easy to feel on the water.
Fewer operators sail. At least one of the Comino-only cruises we list has no dates after October, and the summer sunset cruises stop in September. The bigger operators keep going: Hornblower publishes day cruises from March to December and Supreme Travel publishes daily departures from March to November, and the Comino ferries from Ċirkewwa and Marfa publish one daily timetable with no season.
Can you swim at the Blue Lagoon in November?
Sometimes, early in the month. The sea around Malta averages about 22°C over November on the Met Office's long-term series, close to June's figure, and it is falling through the month, from October's 24°C towards December's 18.5°C, so the start of November is warmer than the end. On a calm, sunny day that is a comfortable swim for many people, and the shallow lagoon can feel warmer than the open sea on a still afternoon.
Treat it as a bonus, not the reason to book. Several operators end their swim stops in October: the Crystal Lagoon swim is published for June to October, and stops at bays such as St Nicholas for May to October. Whether your boat moors long enough to swim at the Blue Lagoon is the crew's decision on the day. The Malta Tourism Authority's own guidance does not recommend swimming from November to February, and later in the month the air, with an average daily high of about 21°C and cooler in the wind on deck, is what makes getting out of the water uncomfortable.
If a swim matters, travel in the first half of November, choose a boat that still lists a swim at the lagoon, and pack a complete dry change of clothes.
Swimming in October or November?
October is still a genuine swimming month; November is more conditional, especially late in the month. October is the warm-water shoulder season, with the sea at about 24°C and lower crowds than summer, and conventional cruises still work well, especially early and mid-month. November averages about 22°C and keeps cooling through the month, so early November can still carry a swim on a calm day, while late November is better for sightseeing and the Gozo combinations.
Pick the boat to match. If your dates fall in October or the first days of November and a swim is the point, the 3–4 hour Comino cruise from Ċirkewwa moors at both lagoons, and the private speedboat lets you choose the stop and how long to stay. Later in November, the Gozo and Comino full-day cruise still makes a full day without a swim. Our guide to Malta boat trips in November lists everything that still sails.
What kind of tour makes sense in November?
Match the tour to the season. A product that is ideal in August can be a poor choice in January, and a winter itinerary should not be judged by how many swimming stops it advertises. In November the right choice depends on which half of the month you are in.
Standard shared cruise
Best when swimming is the main point of the day and the full schedules are operating. A 3–4 hour Comino cruise is usually more versatile than a long single-stop excursion. In November that makes it an early-month option for most people. The choice is still reasonable: the Comino Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon and sea caves boat tour from Ċirkewwa was bookable on every November date when we checked, and so was the Comino-only catamaran day from Buġibba, whose Crystal Lagoon swim becomes a photo stop after October. The Mellieħa Comino cruise we list on other pages has no dates after October in its booking calendar.
Gozo and Comino
This is at its best in late autumn and winter, because Gozo adds a substantial sightseeing part to the day. If you would sooner stay dry, the day still includes Victoria, the island scenery and a proper excursion, not a long cold stop at anchor. For most of November this is the format we would book, and the Gozo and Comino full-day cruise is the most-reviewed version.
Private boat
Best for couples, families and small groups who want a flexible route, the caves, a shorter crossing and control over the swim stops. In summer a private boat helps you avoid the crowds; in November it helps with flexibility and a shorter day, and the skipper can change the route for the weather. Our picks are the private boat cruise with caves and swim stops from Ċirkewwa and the shorter Comino and Blue Lagoon private speedboat tour.
Three tours for November
Most Blue Lagoon cruises follow much the same route. These three differ in the ways that matter in November: a Gozo and Comino day, a private charter and a short private boat.
Our November picks
Malta: Gozo & Comino Islands, Blue Lagoon & Sea Caves Tour
The Blue Lagoon, a photo stop at the Crystal Lagoon, the Santa Maria caves and three to four hours on Gozo, with an optional bus to Victoria. From September to May the operator may use a large sailing catamaran without the underwater windows, and the bar takes cards.
Check November datesMalta: Private Boat Cruise with Caves, Beaches & Swim Stops
Your own boat and skipper around Comino's caves and bays, with snorkel masks, fins and a freshwater shower aboard. The skipper can change the route for the weather, and a fuel charge of €59 is paid in cash on board.
See charter datesMalta: Comino & Blue Lagoon Private Speed Boat Tour
The quickest way to see Comino in November: two or three hours from Mġarr on Gozo or Ċirkewwa, with the lagoons and caves and nothing else. Fuel is paid on top of the price, and the operator does not recommend it for anyone prone to seasickness.
See speedboat datesOur guide to shared cruises and private charters compares the two formats in more detail, and Gozo and Comino or Comino only helps if you are deciding between the full day and a shorter trip.
Weather, wind and cancellations
Every Blue Lagoon trip is a trip at sea. Operators may change the route, skip the Crystal Lagoon, avoid the caves, shorten the swim stops, switch boats, postpone or cancel when conditions require it. Book the trip early in your Malta stay so you still have another day available.
In November flexible cancellation is particularly valuable. Do not rely only on the weather in Valletta or at your hotel: conditions around Comino can be different, and the Met Office says winds over the open sea run stronger than at the airfield where its figures are measured. Wind, waves and the state of the sea matter more than a rain icon; a short shower does not stop a boat, and a sunny day with a strong north-westerly can. The Met Office's mariners' forecast gives the wind and sea for the coming days, and the date checker on our best time to visit Malta guide reads the forecast for the lagoon itself. If the operator cancels for the weather, the featured cruise offers another date or a full refund.
Blue Lagoon landing pass
If you plan to step ashore in the managed Blue Lagoon area, check the current access rules and get the free landing pass when it applies, from the official site at blcomino.com. The pass has been required to set foot on land at the lagoon since 1 May 2025 and was brought back for summer 2026, but no official source says whether it applies outside the summer season, so check the site for your November date.
The landing pass and your boat or ferry booking are separate, and your tour does not book it for you. The rest of Comino, including Santa Marija Bay, needs no pass. Our Blue Lagoon visitor guide covers the landing and the facilities.
What to bring
In the warm season you would bring swimwear, a towel, high-SPF sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and plenty of water, and in early November all of that still applies. The sun on the water is stronger than the air temperature suggests.
For late autumn and winter, add a fleece or jumper, long trousers and a windproof layer, and a complete dry change of clothes if you intend to swim. On a full-day cruise you will be on an open deck for the return in the late afternoon, which is the coldest part of a November day on the water.
November in figures
November sits between the last of the warm-water season and winter. Here it is beside the months on either side.
| Month | Sea | Air high | Rain | Rain days | Peak gust, Luqa | Sunset, 15th | Tourist nights, 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| October | 24.1°C | 25.0°C | 78 mm | 9 | 70 km/h | 18:27 | 2.56 million |
| November | 21.6°C | 20.8°C | 89 mm | 12 | 74 km/h | 16:55 | 1.90 million |
| December | 18.5°C | 17.1°C | 85 mm | 13 | 80 km/h | 16:50 | 1.38 million |
The rain figure is the month's total in an average year, and the rain-days column says how many days were wet, which is the number that matters on a boat. The peak gust is the average of each month's strongest gust, measured on land at Luqa, so it shows how the wind builds into winter; it is not a cancellation rate. Our month-by-month guide has the full year.
Final verdict
November is the change into winter at the Blue Lagoon. Early in the month a swim can still be realistic, and a Comino cruise still makes sense; later in November, sightseeing-led and private trips are more useful. For most of the month, book a Gozo and Comino day and treat any swim as a bonus, or take a short private boat if you want Comino on your own terms. Keep a spare day in case of wind. If your trip runs into December, our guide to the Blue Lagoon in winter covers what comes next, and our guide to the Blue Lagoon in October covers the month before.
How we know
Sea temperature is the Malta Met Office's monthly mean series published by the National Statistics Office (Environment Selected Indicators, Table 16), averaged here over 1996–2025. Air temperature, rain and the peak gust are the Met Office's 1991–2020 climate profile for Luqa airfield, published by the NSO in The State of the Climate 2022. Tourist nights are the NSO's Inbound Tourism releases for 2025. The swim-season guidance is the Malta Tourism Authority's. Operator seasons are those published by Hornblower, Supreme Travel and the Comino Ferries Co-op, and the GetYourGuide booking calendars read in September 2026; the full-day cruise's calendar shows every November date as bookable, which is availability and not a promise that the boat sails in any weather. The landing-pass rules are from blcomino.com and the MTA. Sunset is computed for the lagoon's coordinates.
The Blue Lagoon in November: common questions
Can you still visit the Blue Lagoon in November?
Yes. Boat trips to Comino still run in November, weather permitting, and the Comino ferries publish a daily timetable with no season. The full-day Gozo, Comino and Blue Lagoon cruise was bookable on every November date when we checked. Fewer operators sail than in summer, the seasonal swim stops have mostly finished, and a windy day can cancel or shorten a trip, so book with free cancellation.
Can you swim at the Blue Lagoon in November?
Sometimes, early in the month. The sea around Malta averages about 22°C over November, close to June's figure, and it cools through the month, so the first week is warmer than the last. On a calm, sunny day that is a realistic swim for many people. Treat it as a bonus: several operators end their swim stops in October, the Malta Tourism Authority does not recommend swimming from November to February, and later in the month the air on deck is cool.
Can you swim in the Blue Lagoon in October and November?
In October, yes: it is still a genuine swimming month, with the sea at about 24°C, and conventional cruises work best early and mid-month. November is more conditional. The sea averages about 22°C over the month and cools as it goes, so an early-November swim on a calm day is realistic for many people, while late November suits sightseeing better. The Crystal Lagoon swim stops are published for June to October.
What is the weather like in Malta in November?
Mild and more changeable. On the Met Office's 1991 to 2020 profile for Luqa, November averages a daily high of about 21°C, 89 mm of rain on about 12 days, and a stronger wind than October. The sun sets around five in the afternoon by the middle of the month.
Which Blue Lagoon tour is best in November?
Early in the month a Comino cruise can still work if swimming matters. For most of November a Gozo and Comino day is the better choice, because the hours on Gozo carry the day even without a swim. A private boat suits couples, families and small groups who want a short, flexible trip and control over the route.
Do Blue Lagoon boat trips get cancelled in November?
They can be. Every operator can change the route, skip stops or cancel for wind and sea conditions, and November is windier than the summer months. Book the trip early in your stay so there is a spare day, choose free cancellation, and check the marine forecast for Comino, not just the weather at your hotel.
Do you need the Blue Lagoon landing pass in November?
Check blcomino.com for your date if you plan to step ashore. The free landing pass has been required to set foot on land at the Blue Lagoon since 1 May 2025 and was brought back for summer 2026, but no official source says whether it applies outside summer. The pass is separate from your boat or ferry booking.
